National
Scenic Byways Program

The National Scenic Byways (NSB) Program was
established under the
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991. Under the
program, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes certain roads
as National Scenic Byways or All-American Roads based on their
archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, and scenic
qualities. There are 150 such designated byways in 46 states. The
Federal Highway Administration promotes the collection as America's
Byways.

Byway leaders,
local groups, volunteers, organizations and State
coordinators responsible for the planning and marketing involved with
nationally designated byways look to the America’s Byways Resource
Center for the training, information and expertise that paves the way
to better byways.
America’s Byways Resource Center,
established by Congress originally as
the National Scenic Byways Resource Center, opened in January 1999 as a
division of the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission. Funding is
provided through an agreement with the Federal Highway Administration.
The
America's Byways
Resource Center provides
information and assistance about managing byways. They maintain a
collection of physical resources, such as examples of corridor
management plans, marketing plans and collateral materials. Their staff
is also available to coach and encourage individuals and groups
managing byways. Three byways specialists are the points of
contact
for specific regions of the country, and they are eager to assist.

In
addition to 8 National Scenic Byways in Utah, there are 18 State of
Utah Scenic Byways. As is stated on the Utah Office of Tourism
website: "The beaten path. It gets you
there... ...But for those to whom the reward is in
the journey, there are paths less trodden. Panoramas
reserved for the adventurous, worlds away from the mainstream." Use the link provided above
